Stanisław Ożóg was born on 11 April 1930 in Daszawa (the former USSR). After the war he lived in Łowyń near Międzyrzecz. He attended a school in Sulęcin. He was an athlete, a long-distance runner, the eleven-fold champion of Poland in 10 km racing as well as 8 and 12 km cross country racing (in the years 1954-1962). He participated in the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960.

Bukowiec is the highest hill in the Lubuskie Lake District. It raises 227 m above sea level. The difference in height between the hill top and the lakes situated in the neighbouring tunnel valley exceeds 120 m. Such height differences are quite unique in the Polish lowlands. A blue cycling route and a blue hiking trail lead to the hill top through beautiful beech forests.
